Glacier Church of Christ
What to Expect
We are a family and community oriented non-denominational church. Our objective is to enrich the lives of others by bringing Jesus to the community, and the community to Jesus. After all, we are the "Church of Christ."
We learn about and practice the teaching of Jesus. That's our focus and pretty much what our lessons and sermons cover. The Bible is our text book, both old and new testaments.
We are a friendly, open, and family-oriented church. Actually, our church is pretty simple: no frills, programs, entertainment-like services, and so on.
The Lessons
Our Sunday meeting is in two parts: Bible Study and Worship.
Bible Study
The Bible study class usually covers specific books and verses, where we go into what they mean and how to apply them in our lives. It's a participative environment, with open interaction between the person giving the lesson and the class. It's informal and intended to open our minds and hearts to the topic at hand. This session usually runs about 50 minutes.
Worship
The worship is where the minister or appointed substitute will teach Biblical wisdom and ow it applies to our lives as Christians. The areas of focus can be drawn from the entire Bible.
There is no instrumental music, as we only sing A-Capella. Our hymns are part of our worship service, and intended to engage the heart and soul. It is not for entertainment value, but rather to enhance the effectiveness of our worship service.
A typical worship service takes around 60 minutes and will be something like the following:
- Announcements, events, prayer requests
- Opening prayer
- Singing
- The Lord's Table (similar to "communion" in other churches - see the "Why We're Different")
- Singing
- Worship service
- Closing prayer
Part of the Lord's Table is the "offering." If you're visiting, don't feel you have to contribute. Just being with us in worship is offering enough!
